Great Buddha of Kamakura

The Daibutsu or Great Buddha of Kamakura stands 13.35 metres tall and weighs a whopping 93 tons making it the second largest monumental Buddha in Japan. It is believed the bronze statue was cast around 1252 took 10 years to build. Today the Buddha is registered as a National Treasure of Japan and visitors can pay a small fee to see inside the hollow structure. The Buddha and the beautiful grounds of the shrine are open daily from 7:00 AM until around 5:30 PM and is about a ten minute walk from the Kamakura station
