Tokyo has two major airports, Handea which handles mainly domestic traffic and Narita which is the major international airport. Rather confusingly Handea is often called Tokyo International Airport as this was the international airport prior to Narita opening. Narita handles about 20 million passengers a year and 2 million tons of cargo, it is one of the worlds great airport hubs.

Located about 60 kilometers to the north east of Tokyo's city centre in the Chiba Prefecture the airport opened in 1978 the airport has 2 terminals. Terminal One usually handles US, European airlines, Singapore, Cathay and Korean Air. While Terminal 2 carries most Asian traffic with Delta and a few of the European airlines also using it.
The surrounding land around the area has become a hub for high tech companies and many shipping and transport logistic organisations.
Narita is well serviced and easily accessed by public transport especially rail service, with the JR Narita Express or NEX being the best option to get into Tokyo. The journey takes about an hour and departs every 30 minutes. A considerably cheaper, but 90 minute journey is to use the JR Chuo Sobu Line which has a rapid service it departs once an hour. For an even cheaper alternative but with a train swap, travel with Keisei Electric Railways, board the Keisei Limited Express from the airport to Nippori Station which takes about 75 minutes then transfer to JR's Yamanote Line or the Keihin Tokuku line at Ueno Station then its about 10 minutes to the Tokyo Station. Keisei also operate there own version of the Narita Express known as the Skyliner, it terminates at their Ueno Station.
The trains are one of the most efficient and most on time rail services in the world, but it is best to allow plenty of time to reach the airport as unforseen delays can occur.
There are plenty of limousine buses which leave all the time, many stopping at major hotels and lots of taxis but as Tokyo is 60 kilometres away taxis can be very expensive with fares in the vicinity of 20000 yen to get to downtown Tokyo not uncommon.
