Fukuoka Art Museum

The Fukuoka Art Museum is a prominent cultural institution located in the heart of Fukuoka City, adjacent to the scenic Ōhori Park. Established in 1979, the museum underwent a significant renovation and reopened in March 2019, enhancing its facilities and exhibitions to better serve visitors and art enthusiasts.

Fukuoka Art Museum

The museum boasts a comprehensive collection of over 16,000 artworks, spanning from ancient artifacts to modern and contemporary pieces. Highlights include works by renowned artists such as Salvador Dalí, Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall, and Kusama Yayoi. The collection also features significant pieces of Buddhist art and traditional Japanese crafts, reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Designed by the esteemed Japanese architect Kunio Maekawa, a protégé of Le Corbusier, the museum’s architecture harmoniously blends modernist design with the natural beauty of its surroundings. The 2019 renovation introduced a new entrance directly connected to Ōhori Park, a café, a museum shop and improved accessibility features, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

The Fukuoka Art Museum hosts a variety of exhibitions throughout the year, including special exhibitions, collection showcases, and educational programs. These exhibitions cover a wide range of themes and periods, offering visitors diverse perspectives on art and culture.
