When you see a giant crab outside a restaurant you think of fresh seafood, if you see a bull you think of steak. Well, what do you think when you see a giant gorilla, curry of course. Go Go Curry is one of the leading curry cafes in Japan. They are easily found by the large gorilla logo adoring their shopfronts.

The Go Go Curry story began in the Ishikawa prefecture found about level with Tokyo but on the western coast of Honshu in a township called Kanazawa, known for its Kenroku-en Perfect Garden and the Kanazawa Castle.

Go Go claim their curry has 55 processes that take 55 minutes to stew then a further 55 hours to mature into the most delicious and richest curry found. The 55 number comes as a tribute to a local baseball legend Hideki Matsui who wore no 55. The company has plans to have 555 stores in 55 countries and currently has around 75 in Japan as well as stores in Brazil and the USA where they have a Times Square store. There are also several other Go Go Curry stores in New York and along the east coast.

The curry has a distinct black colour and is not only delicious but a very cheap and popular meal. The traditional dish includes rice, shredded cabbage and a crisp crumbed pork cutlet but there are dozens of options on their extensive menu including curries with chicken, shrimp, sausages and a range of tasty toppings.

One of their signature items is a curry for those who are starving, known as the World Champion Curry this massive 2550 Yen dish contains sausages, shrimp and both a chicken and pork Schnitzel, all atop a huge mound of curry sauce.
